Collaborating Company Overview
The Evans and Tate Wine Group is one of the largest wineries in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
Project Overview
Evans and Tate partnered with The University of Western Australia and Murdoch University to establish the effect of vineyard site on wine quality from Chardonnay grapes. A key part to this project is understanding in detail the climate of the region.
Project Challenge
To generate a climate model for the Margaret River wine region, using weather data that was collected over a 60 year period. The model from this data would show climate change and climate variation within the region.
iVEC’s Solution
The generation of a detailed model to understand climate change and variation within the Margaret River wine region. The model took over 1000 days of computer time to generate, which was reduced to a few weeks using an iVEC supercomputer.
Commercial Outcome
The model of the local climate was provided to the industry to support decision making in vineyard development and management and thus maintaining WA’s global competitiveness.
