EDUCATION & TRAINING > Online Courses

At present, iVEC is offering 2 online courses:
  • Introduction to iVEC
  • Parallel Algorithms and Applications
iVEC is currently developing new online interactive courses that will be served through Moodle. They will be accessible through this page once they are available.

Please also see the Short Courses page which includes slides for our current training offerings.

Introduction to iVEC
This two hour session will introduce you to eResearch and give an overview of the resources available at iVEC.

Introduction to iVEC - 2008 version
iVEC offers its Introduction to iVEC course on a regular basis to familiarise people with iVEC and its HPC facilities. The course slides are available online as HTML or as a PDF.

Parallel Algorithms and Applications
Lecturer: A/Prof Amitava Datta
Parallel algorithms are extremely important for solving large problems from many application domains. Moreover, a good knowledge of parallel algorithms is essential for programming a parallel computer or a cluster of workstations used as a parallel computer.

In this course, we will study several fundamental techniques for designing parallel algorithms and use these techniques for designing parallel algorithms from different domains. We will discuss different models of parallel computation including the PRAM model and network models like the hypercube and mesh. We will study basic techniques like prefix sum, list ranking, merging, sorting and searching. We will use these techniques for designing parallel algorithms for graph theoretic, geometric, string processing and image processing problems.
