Process - Proposals and Student Applications

Project Proposal Process

The due date for project proposals is 15th August 2011. The selection committee will meet in the week following the deadline to assess the proposals. Accepted projects will be listed on the iVEC website by mid-August.

Project assessment will be based on

  • Merit and originality of the research to be supported
  • Effective use of iVEC resources
  • Clarity of project plan


Late projects will be accepted, but will have a shorter viewing time than the rest of the projects.

Student Application Process

The due date for student applications is 8th September 2011 (updated). Students should not submit their applications until after the project list has been published.

The selection committee will meet in the two weeks following the deadline to determine the distribution of awards, and the successful applicants will be announced in September..

Evaluation and selection of students will be based on:

  • Student qualification and past performance
  • Student motivation and expected benefit


We will also be aiming for diversity across the internship program selection.

 

Conditions

Conditions for Students

  1. Students must be 3rd year or higher undergraduate students (including Honours) at an iVEC partner institution
  2. Internships will run for approximately 10 weeks during the period December 2011 through February 2012, although dates and exact length of the internship are negotiable.
  3. The award is for up to $6,000 per student, depending on the length of the project.
  4. Awards are fully funded by iVEC and its partners.
  5. Interns must not have held an iVEC Internship in the past.
  6. The internship is a student award and is paid directly to the student via the partners.
  7. There will be a mandatory one week induction 28th Nov - 2nd Dec 2011.
  8. Interns will be expected to write a brief report, generate a podcast describing their work and give an oral presentation at the completion of the internship.

Conditions for Projects

  1. Nominated projects must clearly demonstrate that the intern will be involved in exploring aspects of supercomputing, large-scale storage, high-speed communications or scientific visualisation and must utilise iVEC Facilities
  2. Projects can come from any research field. At least one of the supervisors must be a staff member from an iVEC Partner or Facility.
