iVEC can enter long term relationships with organisations for the purpose of increasing collaborative research in Western Australia. This provides access to the iVEC petascale data store to enable the sharing of data sets, and access to iVEC supercomputers for producing value-added data products for distribution to clients.
Government agencies and industry often have data that is useful to other organisations. Examples include mineral drill core scans, rainfall data, human population statistics, flora and fauna statistics, ocean temperatures, historical documents, and aerial imagery.
iVEC can host this data to enable collaboration between Western Australian organisations. Our compute facilities can also be used in the creation of these data products.
Example data includes mineral drill core scans, rainfall data, human population statistics, flora and fauna statistics, ocean temperatures, historical documents, and aerial imagery.
Associate Membership quick facts:
- The data must be shared with at least one external organisation.
- The collaboration/sharing may be free or of commercial nature.
- Storage may be on disk or tape. Disk is more expensive and better suited to high responsiveness and databases. Tape is cheap and green, and is better suited to large pieces of data and data that is accessed infrequently.
- A fixed Associate Membership fee of $30k per annum is applicable.
- Storage space is provided by iVEC at cost, in addition to the annual fee.
- HPC compute time to generate data products is free, within reason.
- The data infrastructure is on iVEC's high speed 10Gbps network, which connects into the WA universities, WA Government agencies and some ISPs with no data movement charges.
